A bit about my process (what process?!)

At a recent show I was asked about my process. I struggle with how to answer such questions. How do I tell people that it’s all organic? That I don’t have a set process. I just add layers, loads of color – that I’m just going with it? I wish I had a formula, maybe then I could find my own style. I want people to be able to see one of my pieces and say “that’s Shelley’s work!”. It’s not that I want to keep painting the same piece over and over, but I want my own signature style. How do you arrive at that stage? Especially when you are a person who hates to stay in the same place for long. Am I doomed to be this way forever?? Here’s just a short video clip of my morning work. You can see my markmaking. I love the sounds of the water and scratching, plus the randomness of it all. #inmyfeelings #earlymorningworkout #artprocess #igartist #color #layers #texture #markmaking #sgturnerart #newyorkartist #expressionism #abstract #abex

This is something that bothers me. I know it takes time but I’ve never been the patient type. I want to arrive at my destination. I want to have a recognizable style, BUT I also don’t want to be stuck there! Is there a way to have your own style without being in a box? Can you work towards this goal, or does it need to just happen?! UGH!
